He’s portrayed Peter Parker in the MCU across five movies (including next month’s Spider-Man: Far from Home), but by the sounds of it, he’s pretty devastated that his blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance in the Sony project was scrapped.
The actor told JOE: “At one point I was supposed to be in it. There was going to be another Peter Parker. There was like a scene in a train station or something, and it was going to be like an Easter egg.
“I was going to walk through the background and say like ‘Hey, kid’ or something.”
He sighed: “Never happened. Heartbroken”.
Elsewhere, Into the Spider-Verse co-director Rodney Rothman revealed back in April that the in-development sequel will offer a much bigger role to Dr Olivia Octavius/Doc Ock.
“In the end, we found the movie played fine without us tagging every single possible thing, but we definitely think of Liv as someone who is not gone from the story, and who in many ways is our most powerful bad guy,” he explained.
“She’s manipulating a lot of things to achieve her own grand ambitions”.
