Update: The UK’s age-verification system for pornographic websites has been delayed for an estimated six months.

It was announced today (June 20) that the new measures, which were due to come into effect on July 15, have been pushed back because the government failed to tell the European Commission about certain aspects of the proposals.

Culture Secretary Jeremy Wright explained in the House of Commons: “It has come to my attention in recent days that an important notification process was not undertaken for an element of this policy, and I regret to say that this will delay the commencement date.”

The tighter controls are intended to protect underage internet users from viewing explicit content by requiring all adults to provide ID before they can access pornographic sites, although it has come under fire from privacy campaigners amid concerns about how the verification will work.

Original story (April 17): Prepare for Great Britain to get even more miserable, as the UK government has announced when it is bringing its ‘porn ban’ into effect.

From July 15, new legislation will come into effect, requiring internet users to verify their age to view any adult material online.

The verification methods reportedly could include buying a pass from a newsagent, or entering personal information such as card details, driving licence or passport into privately owned databases.

While the government are introducing these measures to stop underage children viewing sensitive material online, there is backlash against the methods proposed.

Opponents of the ‘ban’ state users will be giving up their privacy to private companies, while others worry how secure their data will be.

Last year, Tumblr removed all of the adult content from its website which, as anyone who has ever been on Tumblr will know, is pretty much all of the content.

In recent years, pop culture parody porn films have become all the rage, and since we cover all manner of pop culture here at Digital Spy, we ranked some of the best porn parodies that you might fancy watching (while you still can…).

Whether you agree with the new government laws or not, it is definitely going to change the internet forever for UK citizens. Because, as we all know, the internet is for porn:
