Bucky Barnes may not have claimed that all-important shield, but his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is far from over – especially as there’s now a ‘new’ Captain America on the scene, and the Winter Solider still has a big job to do.
With Steve Rogers passing on the mantle of Captain America to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie’s Falcon) in Avengers: Endgame, a new era of The Captain was born, which is where the brand new Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier comes in.
Now, just days after The Falcon and the Winter Solider unveiled its first look at Mackie and Sebastian Stan in their new costumes, a new on-set image of Bucky Barnes in action has emerged.
In recent behind-the-scenes photos, Sebastian looks a little different from the Winter Solider we’ve seen before, still clad in black (and leather), but sporting a shorter haircut. Take a look below.
Earlier this year, Endgame directors the Russo brothers revealed the reason for choosing Sam over Bucky as Steve’s second-in-line, calling the move “really appropriate” for the “connection” Sam and Steve had.
“Ever since they met in [Captain America: The Winter Soldier], there seemed a very common bond between the two characters in terms of their military background, their humility, their sort of commitment to serving,” they explained.
“It just seemed like that would be the person Cap would entrust. We [did consider Bucky] but… from an arc standpoint and from a logic standpoint, Sam made the most sense.”
Disney+ is now available in the US and will launch on March 31, 2020 in the UK.
