The director of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has confirmed the film will explore the pasts of both Finn (John Boyega) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac).

Speaking recently, JJ Abrams admitted that Finn’s origin is “part of the story” in The Rise of Skywalker after being “alluded to” in his first Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens.

He also revealed that the film would ‘shed more light’ on the pasts of other characters including Rey (Daisy Ridley), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and Poe.

“It is part of the story of this one,” JJ told Vanity Fair of Finn’s origin.

“And it was alluded to in Episode VII, but there’s a bit more light shed on that in this one.”

He added: “I would say that each of the characters get more light shed on their histories.

“I’m not saying we get full, exhaustive downloads on all of their childhoods and every major step that got them to where they are.

“But there are a lot of questions about Finn’s past, about Poe’s past, obviously Rey and Kylo, and then some of the new characters we meet.”

The confirmation follows C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels taking issue with his small The Last Jedi role.

It also follows a new Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker clip that sees Rey use a classic Jedi trick, but it seems fans will have to wait until later this month to find out the background details of best mates Finn and Poe.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has a release date of Thursday, December 19 in the UK and Friday, December 20 in the US.
