Fans have endlessly searched through Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker trailers to glean any information they can about the new movie.

However, while theories are abundant about everything from dark Rey to Palpatine’s return, director JJ Abrams has insisted that the trailers don’t really spoil anything.

“The [trailers] that have come out are scratching the surface of what the movie is,” the director told Entertainment Weekly.

The Rise of Skywalker‘s trailers also depict Carrie Fisher’s General Leia, who will appear via unused footage of the actress following her death in 2016.

Speaking about Leia’s appearance in the film, Abrams recently revealed that they “got to tell the story with Leia that we would have told had Carrie lived”.

“There are scenes where she’s interacting with other characters in a way that is uncanny,” he explained. “Hopefully, if it works, it will be an invisible thing and if you didn’t know, you would never know.

“But we got to tell the story with Leia that we would have told had Carrie lived. And that’s kind of incredible.”

Meanwhile, star Daisy Ridley has admitted it was fun to play dark Rey in the new movie, saying: “It’s fun to play someone’s best version, and then the worst. It’s an amazing thing to do as an actress, but we can’t do it often.”

She added: “I felt very good. That’s the most I can say, unfortunately.”

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has a release date of Thursday, December 19 in the UK and Friday, December 20 in the US.
