Robert Pattinson has revealed that he stunned director Robert Eggers after filming the opening scene of his upcoming movie The Lighthouse.
Apparently, the movie’s first scene includes “ferocious masturbation”, in Pattinson’s words, and it looks like The Batman actor decided to give it his all, leaving the director in shock.
“Well, my first shot was this ferocious masturbation scene. It’s always nice to do something massive for your opening shot, and I went really massive on the first take,” Pattinson told The New York Times.
“It was a 180 from everything we’d done in rehearsal, and I could see Robert [Eggers] a little in shock afterward. But I was like, ‘O.K., cool, I didn’t get told to stop, so I’ll keep going in that direction’.
“As soon as I’d done that, it was like the road started getting paved.”
It’s not Pattinson’s first role where he’s been given an awkward task, as the actor recently spoke how the characters he plays “keep masturbating”.
“I keep masturbating. In the last three or four movies, I’ve got a masturbation scene,” he told Variety. “I did it in High Life. I did it in Damsel. And The Devil all the Time. I only realised when I did it the fourth time.”
Hopefully, that won’t be the case with his Batman role…
The Lighthouse will see Pattinson starring alongside Willem Dafoe as two lighthouse keepers, who try not to go insane while living on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1800s.
The Lighthouse is out on January 31, 2020. The Batman has a release date of June 25, 2021.
