Triangle, circle, square and ‘ex’ – that’s what we’ve been calling the buttons on the PlayStation controller for decades.
Well, turns out we’ve all been wrong this whole time, according to PlayStation makers Sony themselves.
A debate has been raging online for the past few days over whether the X button is pronounced ‘ex’ or ‘cross’, with the company now officially stating that it is the latter.
Our lives have been a lie.
“Triangle Circle Cross Square,” they tweeted. “If Cross is called X (it’s not), then what are you calling Circle?”
Well, some people may call it ‘oh’, but c’mon – who really calls it ‘cross’?
In fact, PlayStation did an official Twitter poll (which an impressive 168,000+ accounts responded to), and a whopping 81% said it is ‘ex’.
Well, in these divisive political times, it’s nice to know we can (mostly) all agree on something.
Still, Sony are probably right, as one fan on Twitter claimed that cross marks are equidistant between sticks, whereas ‘exes’ have an unequal distance between the sticks.
Meanwhile, earlier this year PlayStation revealed that you would be able to change your PSN IDs, meaning you no longer have to use that cringe ID you made when you were 12.
