With Avengers: Endgame done, dusted and breaking records along the way, Marvel has now confirmed that two of its hit TV series are also getting the crossover storyline that fans have been waiting for.

Just a few days after it was confirmed that Marvel‘s Runaways will return with its third season on December 13, the studio has now confirmed that the new episodes will also feature another superhero duo as the group crosses paths with Cloak and Dagger.

Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger teased a potential crossover in its second season finale when Tyrone (Cloak) and Tandy (Dagger) hopped on a bus out of New Orleans and onto destinations unknown – although it did sound like they were heading towards Los Angeles, where the Runaways are.

Of course, Marvel is keeping the exact details of the crossover episode under wraps for now, but it’s still exciting enough news to keep fans counting down the days until Runaways returns.

“It’s so fun being able to do something that revels in the Mighty Marvel Manner!” Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb said in a statement.

“Having these young heroes crossover allows fans of both shows to see the adventure everyone has been waiting for and we’ve only hinted at.”

The cast of the two shows also released a joint video together to celebrate the news, with Runaways‘s official Twitter account teasing: “The Runaways have a special announcement to share, with help from some friends…”

“This season we’re going to be facing some of our toughest challenges ever,” Karolina Dean actress Virginia Gardner said in the clip, before Ariela Barer (Gert Yorkes) added: “And we going to need some help.”

Cue the reveal of Cloak and Dagger stars Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph.

“That’s right,” Olivia said, while Aubrey teased: “Road trip to Los Angeles!”

“You’ve all been asking for this, and we’ve heard you loud and clear,” Allegra Acosta, who plays Molly Hayes, added. “So we made it happen.”

And really, we should have seen this coming with Runaways‘ executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage recently teasing a “deeper” connection to the Marvel universe.

“We are so excited to tell more Runaways stories and are so grateful to Marvel, Hulu, our amazing cast and crew and of course our passionate audience,” they said.

“Season 3 will be a magical time on Runaways, as we deepen our connection to the Marvel universe. We are honoured to continue to play in the sandbox created by Brian K Vaughn and Adrian Alphona.”

Marvel’s Runaways returns to Hulu in the US on December 13 while Syfy airs the show in the UK. Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger airs on Freeform in the US, and on Amazon Prime in the UK.
