Yesterday (December 3), Marvel finally dropped the first trailer for Black Widow, which sees Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as the super-spy/superhero.

The trailer featured plenty of action, an Avengers: Infinity War Easter egg and Rachel Weisz, which was good enough for us.

It also contained our first-look at the iconic comic villain Taskmaster, and a lot of fans have taken issue with the design of the character the film has decided on.

The comic version of Taskmaster famously wore a skeleton-esque outfit with a shield, a hood and a cape in an orange, white and blue colour scheme. While we understand the lack of cape (thanks, Edna Mode!), the lack of his comic elements, especially the skull, have rubbed fans up the wrong way.

“Not a great Taskmaster design….Really not a fan of the goggles,” one Twitter user wrote. “I’m okay with him not having his cape, but let’s AT LEAST use the PS4 Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man, or Udon designs…”

Another disappointed fan said: “Imagine Taskmaster being hawkeye that would be weird. innit. Also they could have done a waaaaay better job. the suit looks tv worth imo.”

On the flipside, a few others think that the movie version does look like Taskmaster from the comics, at least the Ultimate universe version.

Some people have stated that Marvel Studios have a good track record with costuming, and that this may not be Taskmaster in his ‘final form’, essentially stating that later on in the film the villain could adopt his iconic look.

Black Widow has a May 1, 2020 release date in the UK and the US.
