Slowly but surely, we’re getting a look at all the new characters we’ll be loving and loathing when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres later this year.
From The Americans star Keri Russell teasing her role as “very cool and a little bit shady” Zorri Bliss to master droid builder Babu Frik, the final instalment of the Skywalker Saga is definitely taking shape as more characters are revealed to the public.
And the latest character we’re being introduced to is Lord of the Rings star Dominic Monaghan‘s new arrival – although there are very few details to go with it.
The actor previously teased his part in the film, explaining that director (and his former Lost boss) JJ Abrams had told him all about his plans for the role, and now we’ve been given a look at his new character too as the actor shared the first image on his Instagram page.
“Oh it’s on now,” he captioned the snap, which shows him weaponed up and apparently ready to fight.
The image appears to come from bits of merchandise released on Triple Force Friday, or from a visual dictionary – but thankfully Dominic made sure all of his fans and followers got a chance to see it too.
As well as new characters and new planets, Star Wars fans have also been able to piece together some aspects of the plot too, as one of the film’s writers recently teased that The Rise of Skywalker will further explore the complex dynamic between Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).
“We’ve tried to pick up that complicated relationship that really has been present ever since the interrogation in Episode VII. When Ren takes off his mask, there’s a nakedness about him with Rey that he doesn’t express to anyone else,” Chris Terrio said.
“Rian [Johnson] developed that in fascinating ways and we’ve been able to develop it even further.”
