Hustlers star Jennifer Lopez feels “flattered” by the immense Oscar buzz surrounding her latest film role.
In her upcoming movie, the actress and singer stars as a former strip club employee who teams up with her fellow co-workers to take revenge on their rich Wall Street clients.
Hustlers premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival over the past weekend (September 7) and critics declared the movie a massive success, praising Lopez’s performance in particular.
Discussing those first reactions to her role, Lopez told the Los Angeles Times: “To wake up to that today was like, ‘OK‘. Obviously, I’m flattered. You work so hard your whole career.
“I’ve done so many movies and I’ve done so many roles that I’ve learned to not do them for anything except that I love doing them.”
“It brings tears to your eyes,” Lopez continued. “It’s like, oh! Somebody liked what I did! I love doing this and it doesn’t matter, but it does matter – it does make you feel like all my hard work is being recognised, and that’s nice.”
The movie, written and directed by Lorene Scafaria, is based on the article ‘The Hustlers at Scores’, produced by American journalist and contributing editor at New York Magazine Jessica Pressler.
Hustlers has a release date for September 13, 2019 in the UK and in the US.
