Bad news if you were hoping that the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie would be called Asgardians of the Galaxy – director James Gunn has ruled it out.
Many fans were speculating that the third outing for Star-Lord, Rocket and co would include Asgard’s most famous son Thor, since the God of Thunder went off with the group at the end of Avengers: Endgame.
Asgardians of the Galaxy is also a comic series by Cullen Bunn and Matteo Lolli, though it seems it won’t be hitting the big screen anytime soon.
Gunn shared a screenshot on Instagram of fan requests not to call the movie by that title, replying simply with “don’t worry”.
Thor star Hemsworth previously admitted that he would like to appear in Guardians 3, telling CinemaBlend: “I’d play that character again. I love it so much – especially if there’s something unique to do again with it. I felt like the last three films were very, very different each time.
“It really felt like a totally different character. And I don’t even know when or if they’re shooting [Guardians of the Galaxy 3]. After the Avengers press tour I kind of went and buried my head in the sand.”
He added: “I’ll work with any of those guys. Asgardians of the Galaxy – that’s actually great!”
Gunn came back on board Guardians 3 after being fired last year over a series of controversial past tweets, and recently opened up about Disney’s U-turn with his job.
“Disney totally had the right to fire me,” he said. “This wasn’t a free speech issue. I said something they didn’t like and they completely had the right to fire me. There was never any argument of that.”
