Chris Rock’s upcoming Saw reboot will slot into the previously established timeline, according to writer Josh Stolberg.
With eight sinister Saw films in total, this gives the filmmakers a hell of a lot to room to play around in.
Announcing the news via social media, Stolberg chose to confirm that it will fit into the timeline but will not be a sequel to Saw by responding to some fan queries on Twitter.
He wrote: “I can say with pretty much certainly that our new film will NOT be called Jigsaw 2. But I don’t make the decisions, so who knows. But it’s NOT a sequel to Jigsaw. It’s DEFINITELY in the timeline of ALL the films though.”
Just what in the heck they’re doing with this franchise is anyone’s guess, but either way, we’re praying they bring back Billy the puppet.
Meanwhile, director Darren Bousman also logged on to Twitter earlier this week with an update on the project.
He shared: “Start shooting the new Saw film in just a few days. Something I never thought I be typing again! Gotta be honest. No one is ready for the insanity about to bleed out on screen!”
The reboot is certainly in good hands here, as Darren previously called ‘ACTION!’ on the pretty underrated Saw 2 as well as Saw 3 and Saw 4.
The Saw reboot will hit US cinemas on October 23, 2020, whilst a UK premiere date is as yet unconfirmed.
