Yet Cavill doesn’t seem willing to give up the role. In a recent interview with Men’s Health, Cavill insinuated that he’s more than ready to get back into the blue and red super-suit.
“The cape is in the closet. It’s still mine,” he said.
“I’m not just going to sit quietly in the dark as all this stuff is going on. I’ve not given up the role. There’s a lot I have to give for Superman yet. A lot of storytelling to do. A lot of real, true depths to the honesty of the character I want to get into,” he later added.
“I want to reflect the comic books. That’s important to me. There’s a lot of justice to be done for Superman. The status is: You’ll see.”
Fans might soon see more of Cavill’s Superman, though not in a brand new Worlds of DC movie. Recently, Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck have joined fan campaigns to release director Zack Snyder’s never-before-seen cut of Justice League.
All of this newfound support to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut has sparked some speculation that Warner Bros is planning to release this version of the blockbuster in some format.
For now, the theatrical cut of Justice League is out now on DVD or Blu-ray.
