Following director James Gunn’s latest Instagram Stories Q&A, it sounds like Star Wars icon Mark Hamill won’t be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe any time soon.

The Guardians of the Galaxy director met up with the Luke Skywalker star in May 2018 to discuss everything from “the weather, gardening tips, and bleu cheese” to “risqué limericks”, which predictably sent MCU fans into a frenzy.

However, Gunn has now clarified whether Hamill was also in talks to join his cosmic superhero franchise.

Posting on his social media feed, the filmmaker explained last Sunday (November 17): “Mark is my friend. We never had these talks you speak of.”

The “talks” he referenced hark back to when one Twitter user pleaded: “@JamesGunn, could you do me a huge favour and find a role for @HamillHimself in Guardians 3? The awesomeness of it might end me, but I’m willing to risk it. Thanks.”

Elsewhere, the director recently shared some unfortunate news regarding the third instalment in the Guardians universe.

Fans are going to have to wait a little longer for the threequel, as production has been delayed due to his current commitments with DC. Hold tight, folks!

Guardians of the Galaxy vol 1 and vol 2 are available now.
