Believe it or not, Game of Thrones‘ Khaleesi was almost played by Elizabeth Olsen – before she messed up during the audition stage.
It was Emilia Clarke who eventually took the role of Mother of Dragons, a character that she portrayed across eight seasons in total. But let’s imagine for a second Scarlet Witch with a bleach-blonde wig and fire-breathing beasts at her side.
Would Olsen have done a better job? Clarke was pretty damn good after all.

Appearing on US talkshow Live with Kelly and Ryan recently, Olsen recalled how a journalist once asked her if she’d had any nightmare auditions.
“I was like, ‘I actually really love auditioning, so I can’t really think of anything,’ and I was like, ‘Oh that’s right, I auditioned for Game of Thrones,” she explained.
“It was for Khaleesi – she was just burned alive and then I start making this huge speech. I was in the smallest room with the casting director, they didn’t even have a reader, and that was the furthest I ever got.
“It was that bad. It was horrible.”
Oh well, things turned out OK in the end. For Emilia’s Khaleesi and Elizabeth’s Scarlet Witch.
Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available to pre-order on DVD and Blu-ray now.
