Vin Diesel has revealed that filming has begun for Fast & Furious 9.

The actor marked the end of the first day of shooting on his Instagram page, sharing a video of himself and co-star Michelle Rodriguez as they reflected on the ninth film in the hugely popular franchise.

“Wow,” the actor said in the clip. “Can you believe it, Letty? Can you believe it? We just completed our first day and it feels like a miracle.”

Game of Thrones star Nathalie Emmanuel, who joined the high-octane franchise as hacker Ramsey in Furious 7, also took to social media to tease some of the returning cast members.

“Day one of shooting Fast and Furious 9 today… The team is back together,” she wrote, along with a series of emojis that presumably represent six of the characters that are returning for the ninth instalment.

It seems safe to assume that the first three emojis represent Vin Diesel as his character Dom, Michelle Rodriguez as Dom’s wife Letty and Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce.

The fourth emoji likely to refers to Jordana Brewster as Dom’s sister Mia, while the last two with laptops must represent hackers Ramsey and Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges’ character Tej.

After missing out on the last film, Jordana Brewster has also been confirmed to return as Dom’s sister Mia in the ninth instalment of the franchise. It’ll be interesting to see how she’s weaved back into the storyline, since Mia was last seen retiring for a quieter life with Brian (played by the late Paul Walker).

One glaring omission from this line-up, however, is Dwayne Johnson, who won’t be starring in Fast & Furious 9.

Don’t panic, though – you’ll soon get to see Johnson alongside Idris Elba and Jason Statham in the upcoming Fast & Furious spin-off Hobbs and Shaw.

Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw will be released on August 2, 2019, while Fast & Furious 9 is expected to hit cinemas on May 20, 2020.
