We’re not entirely prepared for their return, but it’s happening anyway. Yes, the iconic and genuinely frightening Doctor Who monsters, the Weeping Angels, are back.
The Angels made their comeback in a brand new trailer for Doctor Who‘s breathtaking video game, The Edge of Time, where fans were given a sneak peek at the immersive adventure’s gameplay.
In the latest preview, players are launched “across time and space” into Victorian London, an Egyptian temple and space itself, all thanks to the far-flying abilities of the TARDIS.
Accompanied by the Doctor, players – or rather, companions – are tasked with both mind-bending puzzles and action-packed battles against classic Who monsters, all in terrifyingly realistic virtual reality.
So, if you ever wondered what it would be like if the landmark episode ‘Blink’ came to life, you’re in luck. (And you’re braver than we are.)
Doctor Who: The Edge of Time has been billed as an all-encompassing interactive experience, which developers have promised will immerse fans into the worlds of the science-fiction series like never before.
The VR adventure, developed by studio Maze Theory, includes voice work from current Doctor Jodie Whittaker, who features throughout the game as a mentor.

“All along, the Doctor’s there to help you,” Maze Theory’s Ian Hambleton told Digital Spy earlier this year. “She communicates with you through different electronic devices… and she also appears as a hologram in certain sections.”
If the prospect of coming face-to-face with the Weeping Angels is a worrying one, there’s always the free and animated game Doctor Who: The Runaway instead. Launched by BBC VR, The Runaway also features the voice of Jodie and casts players as the Doctor’s companion.
Doctor Who: The Edge Of Time will launch in September 2019 on PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, HTC VIVE and the upcoming VIVE Cosmos.
