The first look at Marvel’s Black Widow has confirmed a classic comics villain will feature in the movie.
The confirmation comes from Marvel’s concept artist Andy Park, and depicts Scarlett Johansson’s secret agent doing battle with a super-villain that any comics super-fan will recognise. Take a look below:
After some on-set photos sparked speculation last month, this concept art finally unveils that Black Widow will be facing off with the infamous Taskmaster.
The alias of Tony Masters, Taskmaster is a notorious sleeper agent and assassin with an expert ability to recreate the movements of anyone he comes into contact with — meaning he can use his opponents’ hand-to-hand combat styles against them.
Taskmaster was created by Marvel Comics back in 1980, and has morphed from classic super-villain into an anti-hero over the years.
In fact, he’s even been a member of SHIELD — just like Black Widow — at times. He often carries his own actual shield, which is sure to bring to mind Black Widow’s close bond with Captain America.
Casting for Taskmaster hasn’t yet been revealed. At Comic-Con over the weekend, it was announced that Florence Pugh will play Nat’s surrogate sister Yelena Belova while Rachel Weisz has been cast as the leader of the Russians’ Red Room super-spy training facility.
Stranger Things star David Harbour will play a version of Red Guardian, a super-soldier who is essentially the Russian counterpart to Captain America.
