This blockbuster marked the star’s 10th appearance as billionaire superhero Tony Stark in the MCU (yes, we’re counting The Incredible Hulk), and also proved to be his character’s swansong – next year’s prequel movie Black Widow aside.
In Endgame, Tony decided to sacrifice himself during the final battle against Thanos, which proved decisive in Earth’s victory.
However, as revealed on Disney Studios Awards, a list has been compiled of the Endgame talent currently in contention for Academy Award nominations – and RDJ is right there.
Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle and Paul Rudd are also there if you like a slightly longer shot.
As for Best Supporting Actress, Scarlett Johansson, Brie Larson, Zoe Saldana, Gwyneth Paltrow and Karen Gillan have been put forward too.
Other categories Endgame hopes to be involved in at next year’s ceremony include Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Director and Best Original Score.
Oscar nominations aren’t completely alien to Downey Jr, who previously earned a nomination for Best Actor in 1992 biopic Chaplin and a Best Supporting Actor nod for his infamous role in Tropic Thunder.
