Universal’s new big screen adaptation of Doctor Dolittle is set to be one of the first big films of 2020, what with it coming out in mid-January. So now seems like as good a time as any to start releasing some promotional materials.
Our first look at the movie, which stars Avengers: Endgame star Robert Downey Jr as the titular character, is the official poster.
Accompanied by the tagline ‘he’s just not a people person’, the poster shows the doc surrounded by a bunch of his animal pals.
The film will follow eccentric doctor and veterinarian John Dolittle (RDJ), as he struggles to come to terms with the death of his wife and holes himself away in Dolittle Manor “with only his menagerie of exotic animals for company”.
“When the young queen falls gravely ill, a reluctant Dolittle is forced to set sail on an epic adventure to a mythical island in search of a cure, regaining his wit and courage as he crosses old adversaries and discovers wondrous creatures,” the synopsis continues.
As well as Downey Jr, the film will feature Bridget Jones actor Jim Broadbent, Good Omens‘ Michael Sheen and Spy Kids star Antonio Banderas in live-action roles.
Meanwhile, we’ve also got (deep breath) Emma Thompson, Rami Malek, Tom Holland, Ralph Fiennes, Marion Cotillard, John Cena, Selena Gomez, Carmen Ejogo, Kumail Nanjiani, Octavia Spencer, Craig Robinson and Frances de la Tour providing voices for the animals that the good doctor can talk to.
But the poster isn’t the only look fans will get at the new movie this weekend. Universal is also planning to release the first trailer at 5pm today (Sunday, October 13), so we’ll soon get to see Downey Jr do his thing and hear that huge voice cast in action too.
Dolittle, as the movie is now called, is set for a January 17 cinema release.
