Concept art for Avengers: Endgame has revealed that the final battle could have featured a giant ant army.

The artwork, which comes from the excellent book Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame – The Art of the Movie, sees a scaled up Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) arrive at the battle with an army of giant ants to take on Thanos and his Black Order cronies.

The art actually makes for quite creepy viewing and definitely isn’t for those with even the slightest insect phobia, which is perhaps why filmmakers decided to leave the art at the storyboard stage.

However, there is a possibility the ants could make an appearance in the now-confirmed Ant-Man 3. *shudders*

As well as giving us the shivers, the art also hints that Scott might have had a slightly larger role in the final Avengers: Endgame battle (not that he isn’t already ‘large’ in the finished film).

As for Ant-Man 3, the movie is due to be directed by Ant-Man and Ant-Man and The Wasp‘s Peyton Reed and is set for release in 2022.

It’s expected to follow the release of both Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder.

Speaking recently, Marvel boss Kevin Feige did reveal that there’s still a place for both Scott and Evangeline Lilly’s Hope Pym/The Wasp in the MCU.

So expect to see the actress back in the future, too.

Avengers: Endgame is out now on DVD, Blu-ray, 3D, 4K and digital download.
