Marvel has released the first trailer for its virtual reality game Avengers: Damage Control – and it looks like an old enemy has returned in the shape of AI annoyance Ultron.

In the trailer, the Avengers once again assemble in what appears to be a post-Endgame setting, although they don’t get much time to rest after their battle with Thanos, as Ultron is seemingly brought back from the dead to wreak even more havoc than before.

The video opens with Doctor Strange explaining that “a powerful threat has resurfaced”. We then see a bunch of very Ultrony-looking cables leading to an ominous glowing device.

“I sense that this force has been waiting,” he continues, “rebuilding its strength in secret, until now.”

After being introduced to two “new recruits” in Iron Man suits, who the players get to control, we then cut to a massive Ultron laying waste on an airbase. And in what sounds very much like James Spader’s voice, he says: “You fail to see the big picture.”

We can see how big you are, mate.

Does this mean that Ultron is properly back in the MCU? Or has he purely been brought back to be killed all over again for the sake of this game?

Fans will have to wait until the virtual reality experience is released later this month to find out.

Avengers: Damage Control will be released on October 18 at selected VOID VR locations.
